Hanson Dry in Clinton Hills, Brooklyn is my 2010 top pic for a new bar /lounge

I was recently invited to attend the opening of this truly exquisite, cozy yet sleek space. As I walked into Hanson Dry, I was softly blown away by the decor which is seductively compared to a "fifties throwback motif". While throwback is used as a nostalgic gesture, the warmth of the light blue and wood walls are neatly balanced and the Restroom in script is duly noted.

Many of the invitees, were smiling and delightfully chatting all in a row at the 26 foot American Oakwood, hand crafted L-shaped bar. I was aroused by group of booze enthusiast and quickly took a seat. I glanced over this bar's modest selection of liquors, wines, vodkas, and beers. Liquor 43 (is a Spanish type of liquor), there is a selection of red wines (Argentian & California) and a selection of white wines (Italian Pinot Griot and Californian Riesling). In addition, there are several types of Vodka which include Skyy and Stoi and eight distinct beers to name a few.

After glancing over the bar's offerings, I decided to order a Kiev Kooler from Chris (co-owner with Matt and Toly) which is a perfectly mix of cherry vodka and lime served in a chilled martini glass which is now my favorite. With the hint of cherry still dancing on my palate, I was swaying to the grooving sounds of Stevie Wonder. I was OVERJOYED to learn that in addition to the lounge that has " a feeling apart of a group" this bar offers an outdoor section to continue the party from spring to summer and fall.

Hanson Dry is located at 925 Fulton Street between Clinton Street and Waverly Place.

Make sure you make Hanson Dry your new place to sip and honor the drink right away!

Cheers!!!!

Many of their tee's are limited editions with a great art work. The owners are very friendly and will assist you if you have any questions. www.abouttimeboutique.com

Crown Heights residents take a stand against Pawn Shop opening!!!

At this very moment, a rally is taking place over the opening of a Pawn Shop on Franklin Ave near Park Place. Hundreds of Crown Heights residents are taking a stand to the street by expressing their anger over this newbie shop owner. Several politicians such as Leticia James along with Senator Adams along with Crow Hill Community Association showed up in support of the rally.

There is good reason for this outrage. Franklin Ave has gone through it's share of troubles in the past from crime and violence. As a result, at times, there were vacant store fronts which were an eyesore to the community. Recently, this neighborhood has changed it's look to add murals, a fancy tee shirt company (About Time), restaurants (95 South,Bristons, Sushi Tatsu, Dutch Boy Burger, Happy Wok, ect ) Beer Garden (Franklin Park) and coffee shops (Breukelen Coffee, Pulp and Bean). Many of the shop owners have received favorable press mentions such as The New York Times which has keep great residents and has attracted new ones.

This rally will take place over the next several hours with a press conference scheduled immediately afterwards.

About Breukelen Coffee House
This quaint coffee nook opened it's doors on Oct 2009 which has caused such a splash that The New York Times newspaper took note... This is not your average dark coffee house. As you walk in this this well lit space, a calming affect is immediately felt due to the warm exposed brick walls and smiles from the barrista down to each of the owners-Leeza, Jason and Frank!!!

Franklin Park is showing the Britain vs. USA game now!!!

I am here at Franklin Park since they are showing the, FIFA World Cup series, on a projector screen in the garden and a ten dollar Stellar beer, Dutch Boy burger with Fries Special at Dutch Boy Burger. The momentum has been increasing by the millisecond and now the game has begun and this spot has standing room only. Whoa!!!

I recently learned of an ugly urban legend that Americans don't watch the World Cup which is crap. Here in America, there is nothing but appreciation for this game. Trash Talking against the rival Britain team has hit an all time high!!! Even some of the patrons here who are American are even routing for other Non-American teams. Being a newbie fan of soccer and watching this world cup will give me the best opportunity to learn about the best players, beginning in a kicking short span of time!

So come on down and watch the entire FIFA World Cup series on the screen in the Garden, showing until 4pm and sample this great food special, along with happy hour offering $4 dollar beer specials.!!!

I strolled over to Bristens Eatery to work on my blog but I was delightfully interrupted by a Tofu Scramble W Vegan Sausage dish!!!

I went to my favorite local eatery for bunch to work on a writing piece but instead I was delightfully interrupted. I never look on their menu because I know it so well. Therefore I glanced over at the overhead board and noticed their new Tofu Scramble W Vegan Sausage dish and then my mouth started to water. Yet, I am now a meat eater (former vegan). I ordered the dish which was amazing with flavor, color, perfect serving portion and extremely fresh. The Tofu Scramble was fluffy, light and seasoned, the vegan sausage was juicy and golden brown.

So if you are at or near Franklyn Ave, simply drop in for brunch or lunch and dive into one of their scrumptious big beef burgers. In the mood for a sandwich? Try their specialty, such as the St. Johns Turkey, Provolone cheese , pear and mayo sandwich, which is named sandwich of the month, just to name a few. Bristens Eatery is located at 751 Franklyn Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11238, tele number 646. 393.9422, closed on Mondays. Become a fan and follow on Twitter @www.twitter.com/bristenseatery.com

I met Pascale years ago as she was a co-worker of my best friend Lori and we immediately became friends. After, I learned that she became a restaurant owner, I frequented the eatery which always served up spectacular dishes. It was at Kombit, that I learned of the Haitian Independence Day, which is celebrated on Jan 1, and sampled their infamous pumpkin soup.

Pink Tea Cup is closing only Temporary until February 2010

Over the weekend, a good friend of mine called me to sadly mention that " The Pink Tea Cup restaurant, located in the West Village of NYC, is closing on Sunday, January 2, forever. I am dramatic, so I gasped for air. My mind immediately flipped back to nearly twenty years ago, to a distant memory, I had nearly forgotten. It was the year 1993 and my now ex (who is happy married) (I am in a wonderful relationship to my soul mate) wanted to take me to a restaurant, that he considered to be quaint, stylish and served some "slamming southern food". He scooped me from work, gave me a kiss and off we ran to The Pink Tea Cup. We arrived at this tiny eatery with foggy windows. But once I entered this place, a warm feeling fell over me and my nostrils began to flare caused by the sweet aroma of mac and cheese, collards and ribs. Oh wee... I had the golden fried whiting fish, sweet potato salad and spicy collards followed with bread pudding. That was the closest to a home cooked southern meal, I have ever experienced at an eatery!!!

Then my mind snapped back to the present and I was very sad. So, I jumped on my computer and located this article on the Village Voice blog " The Pink Tea Cup Closes..... But Owner Plans To Reopen Nearby" by Roy Edroso. I am so relieved and will probably see you at The New Pink Tea Cup upon it's reopening....
