Judith Jamison is and will remain my favorite dancer. While growing up in the Bronx, my grandmother would turn the channel(yes turn a knob)whenever this american born dancer would perform. One of the best performances I watched,is the PBS “Great Performances: Dance In America” special, “A Hymn for Alvin Ailey.” All I can remember is her on the stage. During her performance, her perfect yet complicated dance positions quickly loosened into twirls and leaps that flored the audience.
Ms. Jamison is noted for her chrography, artistic directoring and an author of her autobiography, Dancing Spirit, 1993. Ms. Jamison’s was awarded the Kennedy Center Honors(1999) and the National Medal of Arts (2001).
